Zika’s now spreading from state to state in the U.S.. Health officials in Texas said Monday a resident there caught Zika in Florida and brought it home.It doesn’t mean Zika’s an epidemic just yet, but it does show just how easily the Virus can spread once enough people in an area are infected.”This is the first Texas case to be linked to travel within the continental United States.

Florida governor: Local Zika cases rise to 30

Florida health officials are stepping up their fight against the Zika virus as the number of locally transmitted cases rises to 30, doubling the caseload from 11 days ago.Rick Scott (R) announced Monday that the health department is rushing to send more staff and mosquito traps to Miami-Dade County, where 30 people have now contracted the virus from mosquito bites.Two of those cases were confirmed on Monday.

Florida enlists commercial pest control firms in Zika fight

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida officials have enlisted commercial pest control companies in their fight to stop Miami-area mosquitoes from spreading Zika, Gov.Rick Scott announced Monday.As of Monday, there were 30 people who have been infected with the Zika virus through mosquito bites in the state, 440 travel-related cases of the Zika virus — including one in Alachua County — and 59 infections involving pregnant women, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Florida Confirms Three New Non-Travel Zika Cases

Three new non-travel cases of the Zika virus have been found in Florida, bringing the number of cases confirmed there so far to 28, health officials said.The mosquito-borne virus can cause microcephaly and other birth defects.”Active transmission” is occurring in a one square mile area of the Wynwood arts neighborhood north of downtown Miami, the Florida Department of Health said.
