WASHINGTON — After two weeks of sunshine and 10 rounds of Golf, President Barack Obama is preparing for the busy fall awaiting him.The glow from his vacation on the Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard may fade sooner than expected, though.Obama gets back on the road Tuesday to comfort residents of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a city hard-hit in recent weeks by natural and man-made tragedies.

Amid criticism, White House announces Obama will travel to Louisiana

President Obama will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana next week, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed in a statement Friday.The President, who has been vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard, faced criticism for not returning early to visit the area impacted by severe flooding that destroyed at least 40,000 homes and claimed the lives of more than ten people.In his statement, Earnest noted that Obama had been receiving updates on the flooding response from DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson and the FEMA administrator, both of whom had made trips to the region.

Obama will finally travel to flood-ravaged Louisiana

President Obama will travel to Louisiana on Tuesday, a trip that comes amid criticism that he failed to cut his summer vacation short to visit the flood-ravaged region.“On Tuesday, the president will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he will get a first-hand look at the impact of the devastating floods, and hear from local officials about the response, including how the federal government can assist and tell the people of Louisiana that the American people will be with them as they rebuild their community and come back stronger than ever,” the White House announced Sunday night.The Advocate, a Louisiana newspaper, editorialized that Obama should put down his Golf clubs and visit the state, to show “solidarity with suffering Americans.”“We’ve seen this story before in Louisiana, and we don’t deserve a sequel,” the paper wrote last week.
